Biss Please: Dan Biss Undermined Collective Bargaining in a Series of Votes

Saturday, February 17, 2018

Chicago, IL – Today, the Pritzker campaign is continuing a new series, highlighting where Dan Biss’ campaign rhetoric is at odds with his record. Dan Biss says he’s a proven progressive, but he undermined workers’ collective bargaining rights in a series of votes. Let’s check the record.

In 2011, Biss voted for what AFSCME called a “union-busting bill” that “effectively strips thousands of public employees of collective bargaining rights,” according to the Illinois AFL-CIO. In 2012, he voted to refuse to appropriate funds for wage increases, limiting the unions’ ability to collectively bargain. And Biss voted against firefighters’ rights to negotiate staffing levels and against teachers’ ability to strike and the subjects about which they could strike.

“Dan Biss voted for ‘union-busting bills’ that attack collective bargaining rights and leave teachers and firefighters out in the cold,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “While claiming to be a friend to working families on the campaign trail, Biss has repeatedly stood on the opposite side of the labor movement on the issues that matter most.”
