“Inaugurating A New Century 2019”

Chicago, IL — Today, Governor-elect JB Pritzker and Lieutenant Governor-elect Juliana Stratton announced the formation and members of their inaugural committee which will organize the celebratory activities surrounding their swearing-in ceremony.

MK Pritzker and Bryan Echols will chair the inaugural committee, and Mary Urbina-McCarthy will serve as executive director. Inaugural events will take place the weekend of January 12-13 followed by the swearing-in ceremony and inaugural celebration on Monday, January 14. Over the coming weeks, the inaugural committee’s website — — will be updated with a schedule of events and ticket portal.

“We hope this inauguration serves as a time for Illinoisans from across the state to come together and celebrate our new path forward,” said MK Pritzker and Bryan Echols. “As Illinois enters its 200th year, we so look forward to celebrating with all of you as we begin to build our new future — together.”

For over a decade, MK Pritzker served as a leader of the Pritzker Family Foundation, with a mission of fostering solutions in the areas of early childhood development and women’s health. Under MK’s leadership, the Foundation supported leading organizations in these fields like the Pritzker Consortium on Early Childhood Development, the First Five Years Fund, the Ounce of Prevention Fund, Erie Street Health, and Lawndale Christian Health. Through the Foundation, MK was also involved in shaping the strategic plan for Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, with a focus on scholarships and grants, social justice, entrepreneurship, and civil and human rights initiatives.

MK founded the nonprofit Evergreen Invitational, a sanctioned equestrian show jumping competition that raised over $6 million for the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, focusing exclusively on funding women’s health care initiatives. She has also contributed her time to a number of critical organizations, serving on the board or in leadership roles of organizations dedicated to health care, the arts, and fostering thriving communities.

MK previously worked in Washington D.C. on the staffs of former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and former Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey. She graduated with a B.A. from University of Nebraska at Lincoln and attended graduate school at the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been married to JB for 25 years and lives in Chicago with their two children.

Bryan Echols serves as a Senior Advisor to the Illinois State Treasurer. He previously coordinated Chicago’s Community Restorative Justice Hubs working with community-based organizations to help communities heal after incidents of violence. As a consultant, Bryan has been an educator and thought leader on civic engagement, community organizing, and the intersectionality of race and class in the pursuit of equity.

Bryan was recently named a Forward Promise Fellow with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation working to heal men and boys of color, and he facilitates the Social Justice Practicum at Adler University. His board engagement includes the United Congress of Community and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) and the Workers Center for Racial Justice, and previous board service includes Common Cause Illinois and the Multicultural Leadership Council for the American Heart Association.

Bryan is an avid fan of Chicago sports teams and enjoys mentoring and spending time with family.

Mary Urbina-McCarthy will serve as Executive Director of the Inaugural Committee. Mary Urbina-McCarthy recently served as the Operations Director for JB for Governor. Mary was previously the Deputy Director for Scheduling and Advance for Mayor Rahm Emanuel and managed Constituent Relations for Mayor Tom Barrett.
